Not long ago, my parents were cleaning out their attic, and sent me a bunch of old records (remember those things?) from when I and my brother were kids. I thought they were too cool not to share – some for the memories, some for the interesting album artwork. So, here are some of the pics (if you click through, you can see full size on flickr [or go to the set here])
Some of the Covers:
Robin Hood! Snoopy vs the Red Baron!
Covers: Albums, Singles, and Singles with Books
The Cover art from Victor Borge telling Hans Christian Andersen fairy tales.
I loved this as a kid, I would just stare at the picture. It’s by Arthur Szyk (http://szyk.com/)
Check out this really weird Sesame Street art. I’m not sure if they were being avant garde, or couldn’t get the rights to draw the actual muppets..
This album taught you how to do math with Jiminy Cricket.. I swear I still remember these songs and I think they helped me learn my multiplication tables!
The back of Snoopy vs the Red Baron, the story of Victor Borge, and the very 70s cut paper artwork of A is for Animals (I liked the song “Animal Fair”)
Hey! Check out some of my early artwork on the inside of Brer Rabbit!
I have a few more pics uploaded here… if you want to see another view of any of them, let me know!

What treasure! I can tell your parents were cool!
OH FUN!! I KNOW we had the Santa Claus one. I totally recognize it. The others are not as familiar-looking. But, we had a ton of kids records too. I wonder if my mom has gotten rid of them yet? I may look for them tonight. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane!!
See this is why you should never throw anything away! Because one day you’ll dig them out of the loft and realise how cool they are. I’d frame some of those – especially the Wizard of Oz one
I love them all. I have accumulated quite the collection thrift store hunting! We listen to them all the time and the girls and I love to dance to them. How cool is the Math one though? I am jealous…
oh what fun Nancy!!! these bring back so many memories…we used to listen to these things too….
what fun!!!!
Actually, the Sesame Street cover may not be so far off…Oscar the Grouch was originally orange.
But your theory about not getting the rights is probably spot on. It took a few years for CTW to start merchandising, and only then under strict controls.
Wow! What is it about nostalgia? These covers bring back a LOT of memories; I have seen most of them, not sure of some, but what an awesome collection! Thanks for sharing!
So glad everyone is enjoying them! And welcome Neatorama visitors!
Thanks for the retro trip down memory lane! I had several of these albums and can vividly remember listening to them on my little green plastic record player.
Great selection. By the way, i have one request of you. Digitize that Jiminy Cricket math LP! I would love to hear some songs from it.
jeffconn,
I’m going to have a friend port them all over to mp3 – I’ll post the Jiminy Cricket when I do!
talk about a flashback (of the terrific sort)!
Disney Digital Books Read And Interact With Young Readers…
Nostalgia time: how many readers out there remember story albums? They were 45s or full size vinyl albums that had a story or collection of stories accompanied by a book. I spent hours reading along with story albums, dutifully turning the page at the …
Enjoyed seeing the albums. I have been looking for a children’s song I believe of the seventies. I think the title is, It’s Okay to Cry. Wonder if anyone remembers what album it was on or who the artist was.
