My favorite photo from the other day

My favorite photo from the other day
The Boy does love his diet coke.   Snapped on my camera phone.  Can any Atlantans identify the location?

Back from our Mexican Vacation! (and Tiny Prints cards came in!)

Touring Isla Mujeres on our golf carts
Me, the husband, our friends, and the boy just got back from our Mexican Vacation. It was a blast. We trekked into the interior to go see pyramids, then spent several days relaxing on the beach at Isla Mujeres, off the coast of Cancún. It was a great trip, and I highly recommend it for a family vacation.
Some highlights and recommendations:
  • For our first night we stayed at a little eco hotel in downtown Cancún, El Rey del Caribe. It was lovely– a little oasis in downtown with a jungle like courtyard with a pool, hammocks, and

Snow days and punctuation question

Snow days and punctuation question
We’ve had school closed all week for snow. ALL WEEK! Even here in Atlanta that never happens (we close the schools for pretty much any level of snow, but it’s usually gone by the next day). So I’ve had husband (work was closed too) AND 5 year old home all week. Which means my usual calm work from home days were totally turned upside down. But we did have fun sledding and being lazy. Today we walked to Fernbank for some museum of natural history fun! Now for punctuation: What the heck is this? You’re NOTRead on...

New Years Resolutions…

New Years Resolutions...
I guess I should document some here for posterity, huh? 2 years ago my resolution was to do Illustration Friday every week, and I succeeded!  And my art got better in the process.
Last year I worked on several big projects, like Foodwhirl. This year? ART: Well, I think I want to start the Illustration Friday thing again.  It really did force me to draw, and I’ve been such a slacker with the artwork lately.  I’ve been focusing on web design, which I love (and is more easily lucrative!) but I’m afraid both my art… Read on...

Sewing with a 5 year old- Sweater Snake 2.0

I just had to share this with you guys.  Way back in 2007 (near the start of Dabbled, actually!) I made a sweater snake for The Boy.  Now it was an early project, and in retrospect I probably could have done better in my choice of materials — or maybe it’s the fact that it’s lived for the past 4 years with a little boy — but was getting holes in it.  The 5 year old has been bugging me to “fix the snake”, so when he was off from school the other day, I told him I’d let… Read on...

Dragon-con 2010 Photos/Costumes

Another Dragon*con has come and gone, and we had a great time. I’m bummed that I missed most of my crafty friends… I’ll have to plan ahead better next time!  But I did get to see lots of my artist friends, so that made up for it.  And of course, the people watching was awesome as usual..  here’s a few costumes for you.  Plus there are more photos on my flickr page. <<=This was my favorite costume from Dragon-con this year.  The REAL Iron Man!  Love the details… like “Starch Industries on the handle.  (Though I have to… Read on...

First day of Kindergarten…

We’ll return to our regularly scheduled Dabbled this week, but first some photos of the Cuteness on his first day of school. You’ll note he’s skeptical about this whole school thing, but we did manage to get a smile out of him finally!

Sorry for the MIA!

Boy starts kindergarten next week and we’re enjoying the end of summer vacation! I have bunches of stuff coming up, including making your own citron vodka… so stay tuned!  In the mean time, go check out my latest recipe on Foodwhirl! (Vidalia Onion Shrimp Cakes!)

Teaching kids to read…

So, a query for you more experienced parents out there: The Boy just turned 5, and we’ve been wondering what and how much to do around beginning reading.   He loves to be read to — we read both picture and chapter books to him before bedtime every night, and he has a learning video game that he likes, that seems to have some basic phonics and sight words in it.  But he’s not really showing much interest in reading himself.   He can spell a few words, and is pretty good with letter sounds.  So I’m wondering… do we try to… Read on...
