Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday today (for those in the States of course, others can just have a lovely day!). If you’re still trying to get into the spirit, or throwing a little party today, here are some links to get ya going!
Here’s one of my favorite party projects, from July 4th a few years ago… Shrinky Stemware Charms made from recyclable #6 plastic (like from to-go containers)!

I promised more on the food for the party – we did it as a brunch to try to beat the heat a little bit. Since it’s food related, I’ve actually posted the writeup over at Foodwhirl: Menu for the birthday party brunch food. So go check it out!
The menu included Deathstar Cantaloupe, Mr Slushie Dogs, Roast Bantha, and even Platypus Eggs!
(Thanks to the Evil Mad Scientists for the Deathstar Cantaloupe idea!)

How cool is this! Talk of Tomatoes shows off how she made homemade ‘pop-tart’ look-alikes! What a fun and clever idea. And so much better for you than the store bought ones, I’m sure (at least you should be able to pronounce all the ingredients!)
Janelle Says:
“I made pop-tarts today.” That wasn’t a sentence I thought I would say. I made pop-tarts from scratch! The crust was super easy to make, the longest stretch of ‘work’ was the rolling, measuring and cutting into proper rectangles. But then, the filling was super easy: I just used nutella, jam and a quick cinnamon blend.…

Posting may be light this week because I’m getting things ready for The Boy’s 5th birthday party this weekend–but I’ll be sharing a bunch of the stuff we do for it here, so stay tuned! As mentioned before, it’s a Phineas and Ferb meet Clone Wars party (Invitation here!).
So what’s in the works? Cake wise we’ll be having a Perry cake, and also clone trooper cupcakes (assuming they work out like I plan!). It’s at brunch time (to try to beat out some of the heat of early june) so I’m planning on brunch food & drinks– for both…

Dabbled friends Chica & Jo have a very cool detailed tutorial today about how to make ‘gems’ out of candy. These look just lovely! I can’t wait to try this out.
Jo and I have been doing lots of projects over the last month or so for Little Jo’s birthday party. I’m not gonna let you in on what the theme was just yet, but I want to show you one of the projects I did for part of the party decor. We found ourselves needing some round gems in just the right color of teal. If they could be edible,…

Yesterday I posted a reader version of the Perry the Platypus costume..
Then today I ran across this on my instructable on making the dragon cake:
Here’s mommy_in_a_meditative_midlife_crisis’s version of the Dragon Cake, which she made for her son’s 6th birthday last year! “I just got finished making the cake for my son’s 6th birthday party today. Thanks so much for your easy to follow directions! It made the whole process quite enjoyable! Since I couldn’t get. A hold of Easter candy in September I just made fondant covered cake balls for the eggs and used fondant for the spikes.”
Great job, down to…
