Learning Letterpress

Learning Letterpress

Thank you, Nancy, for inviting me to write a guest post here on Dabbled–this is one of my favorite sites for creative inspiration, with a nice dose of fun mixed in, so it is an honor to post here.

I was invited to write about letterpress, my latest obsession. Probably more than anything I do or write about on Sewer-Sewist–the blog I co-author with my wonderful husband, Josh–I get wistful-sounding feedback from people who really want to learn letterpress. Unfortunately, letterpress is kind of a hard thing to write a “how-to” for–since it… Read on…

The internet, curated.

The internet, curated.

Awfully honored to be guest posting here on Dabbled. Thanks for having me and I hope not to scare any of you away with my atrocious grammar and communist leanings. Here goes…

I think that the thing that I love the most about the internet is that it gives us  all the chance to be curators in our own little museums. We, bloggers anyway, are afforded the chance to trot out whatever collections that we deem hip, cool, or important without having to worry about grant money, a board of directors, or even a coherent direction to our posts. Dragons, Dinos, and Colors for Newbies

Dragons, Dinos, and Colors for Newbies

Hi!  I’m Adrienne.  My husband and I write about geek parenting at Baby Toolkit.  I’m excited to be a guest writer at Dabbled!

There are loads of summer reading lists for adults, teens, and school age kids, so I’d like to offer up a short list of beach (or bedtime) reads for the preschool set.

Dot’s awesome dragon cake and party brought to mind one of our household’s favorite books: Jack Kent’s There’s No Such Thing as a Dragon.  A friend gave us a copy of this, her (now grown) sons’ favorite book.  She confided… Read on…

How to Make a Cute Candy Sachet

How to Make a Cute Candy Sachet

Hi, everyone – Sister Diane here – and I’m excited to be guest-posting on Dabbled today!

I recently published an ebook of weaving projects you can do without a loom, so I’ve been weaving a lot lately. I got to playing around one day with some variegated cotton yarn, which weaves up to look a lot like Fruit Stripe Gum. (Anybody else remember this stuff from the 80′s?)

Since the weaving looks so candy-like, I decided to turn it into a cute little candy-shaped drawer sachet. I particularly like it

Tutorial – Fusing Plastic (or how to make disposal plastic bags into keepable stuff!)

Tutorial - Fusing Plastic (or how to make disposal plastic bags into keepable stuff!)

Today’s guest post is by the very talented Brooke, of So She Sews. I discovered her work on flickr one day (love it!) and I thought her style was such a great twist on the fused plastic trend. And it turns out she’s also an Atlantan, how cool! (Look at this cup holder! Isn’t it neat? You’d never guess that came from grocery bags!) So I asked her if she’d do us the honor of a tutorial.. and she did a great one. I had seen fused plastic bag tutorials before, but not with the thin grocery bags… Read on…

Today’s post is from the lovely Joanne of Ready, Set, Craft!. She was one of our prolific participants in Make Something Cool Every Day in April (MSCEApril), and when I saw this awesome pinata she did, I had to get a tutorial out of her! She graciously agreed, so without further ado, here she is! – Dot

Tutorial: How to Make a Fabric Basket, perfect for Easter!

Welcome CRAFT, Tip Junkie, and Whip-up readers… Look around, we have lots of cool projects here!
My friend Heidi Bragg gave The Boy an adorable basket filled with goodies as a thank you for borrowing his tux. I found out that she actually made this gorgeously cute basket herself, and insisted that she tell us how! She did, and even provided a pattern for you to make your own! Check out the so cute monkey and banana coordinated fabric… the possibilities are endless. Wouldn’t this be special for a keepsake easter basket? Or a gift basket for a friend?
