How to: Dragon Wings for party fun and favors

For The Boy’s “Dragon Party”, we needed favors. I considered multiple ideas (see end of post) but decided to try to make some. The Boy wanted some sort of dress up thing, and these modified capes were very popular with the party-goers, and were perfect for a take home favor.

Now, it wasn’t a small party (not only his friends from preschool, but our friends with kids were there), so I initially made 20 of these. Hence they are NOT high quality heirloom construction. You could easily modify these instructions (adding hems and what not) to make these more of a…

Apparently I’ve bitten off more than I can chew by thinking I could do everything to get ready for The Boy’s party this weekend, handle “Real Life”, AND actually blog about it!

So, I think the tutorial on how to make the Dragon-Wings will have to wait until next week. I made 20(!!) of them, so needless to say, this is a REALLY quick and dirty design.

Today I bake cakes. The plan is a Dragon Cake for the party, plus extra chocolate ‘dragon’s egg’ cupcakes (because The Boy wants chocolate).

I’ll be experimenting with marshmallow fondant for covering the dragon, so…

How to Throw a Robot Spaceman Party!

I’m working on this year’s party for The Boy’s #4 Birthday right now (DRAGONS! Coming Soon!), which got me thinking about last year’s party. For the #3 party, we did a Robot Spaceman theme, and everyone loved it, so I figured some of you might be interested in what we did….

This is a cute party idea, that kids like, and is fun to do. You can seriously go retro with this, and decorate with Tin Robot toys. Or play up the spaceman side of it with stars and outer space decor. Think space, rockets, robots, stars… there are tons of…

Update: We had a homemade eggnog tasting at the party, and it was fun and yummy! I documented How to Make Eggnog here. Also, a few pics from the party are here!

After my big Halloween Parties, my next favorite party to throw is a White Elephant gift exchange party. I do one every year in mid december for our close friends, and if you’ve never done one, they are a lot of fun. A great icebreaker type party if people don’t know each other well, and even more fun with a group of friends who have inside jokes! We do…

For the boy’s school auction this week, I’m giving away a custom graphic for a party invitation. So I pulled together some sample images to show what was possible. I like what I did for the samples, so I figured I’d stick them in my (never before used) etsy store (cheap!). So if you’d like a customized version of any of these (change the text to match your party details), you can get it there–it will be delivered via email. I’m only doing a few of each this cheap, so consider it limited edition . [oh, if your next party's a…

I was calmly perusing my google reader, looking for cool stuff, when I came across this nifty robot cake. “Oh how cute,” I thought to myself, “those remind me of my little robots. And what a clever way to decorate a cake..” So I keep reading, and hey!–They are inspired by my little space robot guys! Nothing warms my tummy more than spreading the robot love.

So, kudos to adrienne of Baby Toolkit on an excellently decorated cake – she’s got a great writeup on how she used a store bought cake decorated with easy homemade fondant. And happy birthday to the…

I used this graphic for the goody bags at the party. Feel free to steal, along with the Invites and Thankyou note graphics, for your own robot parties!

This was a quick coloring job because i finally got around to doing it the morning of the party. But printed out on your average home printer, it looks fine.
