How to Make White Chocolate Ginger Granola Bars

Today I’m over a Foodwhirl, posting my recipe for White Chocolate & Ginger granola bars.. Go check it out!

My husband and son eat a granola bar for breakfast almost daily, and while I’m always stocked on the store bought ones, sometimes I like to make them from scratch. It’s an easy process — very kid-helping-friendly, too. And it takes an hour at most from start to finish (including 25 minutes bake time)
The variations on these are endless. I actually made 3 different flavors in this batch, 1 Chocolate Chip, 1 White Chocolate, and 1 Ginger/White Chocolate, but the ones that…

Make Valentines Day Cupcakes, from Hello Naomi!

Dabbled LOVES Hello Naomi (aka Naomi Henderson), a favorite cupcake maker from Down Under! (Read the Dabbled Interview with her)

We’ve features her fabulous work here before (here, and here), and she has graciously given us a tutorial on how to make some lovely V-day cupcakes.

See below for

  • The Vanilla Cupcake recipe
  • How to Decorate them

(a few translations from us Yanks, to the best of my ability: Icing Sugar = Powdered Sugar.  Castor Sugar = a superfine sugar, which you can purchase in speciality stores here in the states, or make by pulsing regular sugar in a food processor or coffee grinder)

I’ve included…

Black Eyed Peas for New Years Day

Happy New Years Eve everyone!  Hope everyone had a lovely 2009 and I can’t wait to see what 2010 will bring…

And don’t forget to soak your black eyed peas tonight, so you can make them for luck in the new year!*

I love Black Eyed Peas… they are healthy, tasty, and generally kid friendly… Growing up my mom made Hoppin’ John for New Years Day — Black Eyed Peas over rice, topped with onion. So I figured I’d share this VERY easy recipe with you for New Years Day. Plan ahead, because it takes an hour to cook. This recipe can…

Make a yummy Flying Spaghetti Monster!

Flying Spaghetti Monster! Yum!

So… I decided to make a FSM (Flying Spaghetti Monster) out of a radical combination: Spaghetti and meatballs.  No, these aren’t just stacks of spaghetti, with meatballs on top, these are true meatball creatures… suitable for your own Flying Spaghetti Monster, or whatever you’d like to create!

I used a technique similar to the one I used for the Halloween Cephalopods (thanks to Filth Wizardry for the idea!).

Ingredients:

  • Frozen Swedish Meatballs (I used the ones from Ikea), 2 per monster. (Defrosted)
  • Thin Spaghetti, dry.
  • Several tubular noodles (I had some elbows on hand, but this would probably work better with a larger…

A “I Miss Summer” Salad

This salad is one of my favorites for the Summer, when the cucumbers and tomatoes are in abundance, but it’s great anytime you can get the ingredients and need a reminder of summer! This is quick and versatile .. it can be done as a side salad, or modded to be a great vegetarian main dish.  The key to this is my favorite secret ingredient, seasoned rice vinegar.

Easy Peasy Instructions:
Slice up:
Tomatoes (If not the season for fresh, I like to use grape tomatoes)
Onions (Sweet, like Vidalia)
Cucumber

Put in bowl, and pour on seasoned Rice Vinegar about half way up the vegetables.
Add…

Make a Tart!

Because I’m a nerd at heart, I tweeted the process of making a blueberry orange tart the other day.  For those who happened to miss it on twitter, here is the transcript and the pics!

Note:  All pictures taken on my blackberry, so quality is not so high, but you get the idea.

I used my basic blueberry pie recipe, but substituted orange zest & juice for the lemon.  I also added slices of orange to the top which candied up nicely for a little different twist.

And instead of doing this in a pie pan, I used a tart pan (I love…

YUM! How to Make Cuban Sandwiches (with no sandwich press!)..

(Hey! MSCEApril people Read this please!)

For the festival this past weekend (yes, I still owe you guys my write up, I’ve been busy! more on that later) I made a batch of cuban sandwiches for our cooler. And lucky you, I documented the process, including my most interesting way of pressing them without a sandwich press. So here they are.

Cubans are a great sandwich, especially for picnicking. They have no mayo, and are good either hot or cool. They don’t require alot of ingredients, and since they are pressed, they stay together well for transport.

Dot’s Cubans (recipe follows)

Ingredients -
-Cuban Bread (available at my local…

Skitzophrenic post here, but I wanted to get one more Octopus out for Cepholopod Week.
And I also have a new instructable up, on how to make a totally easy, kid-veggie-friendly, inexpensive soup – Carrot Vichyssoise…

So here he is — “Cedric”… But I also need an opinion.. I didn’t ink him like I’ve been doing (see others) just darkened the pencil outline. Like? Not as good?
Would love some feedback on this.

So the second thing is the soup… It has some great things going for it:
1. Sounds fancy! and French! Well, it isn’t really french in origin, but was invented…
