How to make Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Treats
Welcome crafty guest bloggers Chica & Jo! This is a great holiday treat idea… Maybe with crushed candy canes? -Dot
Hi, we’re Chica and Jo! Dot asked us to share our idea with you for chocolate-covered marshmallow treats. These treats are a fantastic snack for any occasion and are a big hit for holidays, birthday parties, family dinners, or just a rainy day inside with the kids.
Jo was inspired to make these treats after having something similar at Disney World, when she had chocolate-covered marshmallows on a stick. With some quick experimenting, we found that they were… Read on…
Last Minute Gifts – How to Make Picture Frame Ornaments
My friend Holly and I had a little crafting party the other night while our husbands were out getting into trouble. We decided to make some cute little picture frame ornaments, using felted sweater scraps, scrap plastic, and pictures (small school pics work well for these)! These would make great little gifts for teachers, grandparents, aunts, or whoever loves your little one. Older kids can make these themselves too!
We documented the process, so here it is. You’ll see both of the prototype ornaments we made in the steps. Tutorial below pictures.
(PS: We have some great… Read on…
How to Make Eggnog!
The other day I decided to make homemade eggnog for my White Elephant party tomorrow night. Because Alton Brown is my kitchen hero, I immediately headed over to foodtv.com and found his recipe. I decided to test several versions, and photograph & document the process for you guys. I started by trying the uncooked version. Obviously, if you’re concerned about salmonella, use pasteurized eggs. Verdict: Easy and Yummy.
Version 2 was the cooked version, also from Alton. Verdict: More difficult, but I haven’t tasted it yet! (It’s still chilling). See below the pic for the how-to’s.

Make and Freeze Homemade Chicken Stock
Chicken broth or stock* is a required ingredient in many of our holiday staples. Have you ever made your own? The other day I roasted a chicken, and once I had cut all the meat off the bones, I decided to make stock from the remainder. It saves money by getting value out of something you’d just through away, and has a richer taste and texture than the canned broth from the grocery store–plus it’s healthy! If you don’t usually roast chicken, this is a great thing to do with the leftover bones from your typical grocery store rotisserie chicken.… Read on…
The Robot Scarf Tutorial (a Dabbled Re-run)
I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving! I’ll have some great food related posts this week, including another picture recipe (this time Oatmeal Cookies, which the Handy Hubby made today!), info on making/freezing chicken stock, and a fabulous christmas version of the previous wedding cake cookies. But today, I’m not really up for something new, so here’s a compilation post of everything you need to know to make a quick and cute Robot scarf!
This is a fun little project I did last year, and it took me maybe an evening to complete. I don’t really embroider, so I… Read on…

Freezer Paper Stencils Tutorial (Re-run)
Sorry I’ve been MIA for the past few days… We had a wonderful weekend, hanging out with friends, going to the Chomp and Stomp in Cabbagetown, and being basically lazy playing Spore. And the house is a wreck from all that fun, which I’m cleaning up this morning. So I’m re-running some fun stuff that you might have missed this morning, how to make cool fabric items with Freezer Paper Stencils. Try it yourself! There’s lots of other info, how to’s, and inspiration ideas out on the web, too, but here’s some I’ve done and… Read on…
Monster Wreath 2 – The Quick and Dirty No Sew version
Previously I wrote up a tutorial on creating a monster wreath. Here’s another version, that is REALLY quick and easy, no sewing involved, just a lot of hot glue. You may want to reference the previous for more details, but this should give you the jist. (See, I even wrote this one in pencil, that’s how quick and dirty it is!)
By the way, a reader pointed out there are a lot of wreaths and a nice tutorial which I notice uses this quick hot glue method as well (I like her method of gluing… Read on…
