Make Candy Jewels at Chica & Jo

Make Candy Jewels at Chica & Jo

Dabbled friends Chica & Jo have a very cool detailed tutorial today about how to make ‘gems’ out of candy. These look just lovely! I can’t wait to try this out.

Jo and I have been doing lots of projects over the last month or so for Little Jo’s birthday party. I’m not gonna let you in on what the theme was just yet, but I want to show you one of the projects I did for part of the party decor. We found ourselves needing some round gems in just the right color of teal. If they could be

Another reader re-creation.. The Dragon Cake

Another reader re-creation.. The Dragon Cake

Yesterday I posted a reader version of the Perry the Platypus costume..

Then today I ran across this on my instructable on making the dragon cake:

Here’s mommy_in_a_meditative_midlife_crisis‘s version of the Dragon Cake, which she made for her son’s 6th birthday last year!  “I just got finished making the cake for my son’s 6th birthday party today. Thanks so much for your easy to follow directions! It made the whole process quite enjoyable! Since I couldn’t get. A hold of Easter candy in September I just made fondant covered cake balls for the eggs and usedRead on…

The as yet unnamed food blog project… coming soon.

I mentioned in November that I was thinking about a new food-related group blog. With the holidays, that fell to the back burner, but now that we have a fresh new year, we’re starting up work on this new project. So, I figured I’d give you guys a heads up on what’s coming!

This new blog will try to answer the eternal question of ‘What’s for Dinner?’, with recipes, how-to’s, menus, techniques, and so forth. We’ll cover things like date-night meals, kid-friendly dinners, party fare, and budget friendly eating. It will be a group blog, with bloggers from different areas… Read on…

The Hotdog Creature experiments

The Hotdog Creature experiments

For Halloween this year, I tried a new idea, that I had gotten from the most excellent blog, Filth Wizardry. She did this as a fun project with the kids, and I thought it looked like a lovely and disgusting item for the Halloween buffet, especially for the kiddos. Now those of you who follow me on Twitter may remember this for the Dot Cooks “Live Tweet”, where I documented all my Halloween food prep (if not, you can see the summary here!).

So why am I showing you this now, since Halloween is a whole year away? … Read on…
