Oh Joy! The Flu!

Swine flu by Grieg Wehr - used with permissionSorry for being MIA for the past few days. For those who don’t follow me on twitter, I’ve had the flu. (Yes, I can still tweet from my blackberry with a 102 fever!) Apparently I’m getting better today, as I’ve managed to make it out of bed and to the computer. We’ll technically sitting on the bed typing on the laptop, but you know what I mean.

So I finally went to the Dr. today, and they confirmed that I do have the flu, probably/maybe the swine flu — apparently it’s so common these days they don’t routinely swab for it specifically any more.

So they just told me to continue to rest and drink lots of fluids, and take ibuprofen or tylenol for the fever and treat any other symptoms with OTC meds as I had been doing.

One thing I learned — even with all the freak out over the swine flu — you basically just treat it like the regular flu. Unless you’re in a high risk group, or start having additional problems, they don’t really do anything special to treat it.

Anyways, no fever today, so cross your fingers and send me good thoughts!

    Oh dear

Glad to hear you are getting better.

We’ve just returned from England (lots of swine flu) to France (not so many cases) and my children spent the journey back thinking of badge designs and slogans to indicate that they might be infectious and should not be kissed. They find the French habit of kissing as a greeting very hard to get used to and saw the swine flu panic as a perfect opportunity to avoid too much physical contact.

Of course the beauty of the internet is that there is no danger of infection so I can send you my good wishes at no risk to myself and no risk of giving you “la grippe porcine”.

Thank you for your blog and website. Take it easy.

    Feel better soon!

Oh, no! Feel better. I know a bunch of people who got sick after Dragon*Con, and I’m pretty sure someone there had swine flu (there were a few people talking about it after the Guild panel on Monday). Yuck.
