Macadamia-Cranberry topped Sweet Potato Tartlets

My latest party recipe: Sweet Potato Mini-Tarts.

I got rave reviews on my sweet potato casserole with cranberry-macadamia topping at Christmas, so I decided to adapt the recipe for use as a mini party dessert / appetizer. Last week I gave you the run down on making the tartlet shells… they were very easy and inexpensive to make, but if you’re pressed for time, you can use any type of pre-made appetizer shells for this recipe.
The same ideas can of course be adapted for other types of mini-pies, but I’ll tell you these were certainly a hit at this weekend’s gathering!

So,…

Quick Project – Kids T-shirt Mod!

A lot of people liked the super easy sewing of the Treeskirt project, so here’s another quick and easy project!

My son has a favorite t-shirt that was getting a tad small… he wore it layered with a long sleeve shirt to a party the other day, which gave me the idea to make a long sleeved, slightly larger shirt out of it for him to wear this winter and spring.*

I forgot to take a “before” pic, but you’ve seen t-shirts and long sleeve shirts before, so just imagine them, hehe.

So, Here’s how I did it.

Materials:
1 long sleeve (LS) shirt (can…

The Little Game Box

Here’s a great little stocking stuffer you can make yourself. My 4 year old played a game similar to this* at grandma’s over Thanksgiving, and loved it, so I thought a pocket version would be a great little ‘handmade’ Christmas gift. I’ve included (almost) everything you need to make one for yourself as free downloads! Just grab the file, print, and add your own Altoids tin for a cute little gift that fits perfectly in a stocking! This freebie is a present for you, my readers, because if I didn’t have you, there wouldn’t be much point to this.

You…

Tutorial: Make a Bracelet from an old Record

Today we have another lovely guest poster here on Dabbled,  Kelly from Tresijas!  I discovered Kelly through some of the really cool creations she had posted in the Dabbled Flickr group–especially her vinyl record creations–, and I asked her if she’d honor us with a tutorial.  And she agreed, so here it is…  Enjoy!

Toaster oven with tray
An old pair of scissors

Tutorial – Fusing Plastic (or how to make disposal plastic bags into keepable stuff!)

Today’s guest post is by the very talented Brooke, of So She Sews. I discovered her work on flickr one day (love it!) and I thought her style was such a great twist on the fused plastic trend. And it turns out she’s also an Atlantan, how cool! (Look at this cup holder! Isn’t it neat? You’d never guess that came from grocery bags!) So I asked her if she’d do us the honor of a tutorial.. and she did a great one. I had seen fused plastic bag tutorials before, but not with the thin grocery bags like this.

Hope you…

Halloween Wrap-up – Party Food

See All Halloween Posts

Row 1: Mozzarella Eyeballs. Instead of last year’s idea of just using sliced olives with pimentos, I used the technique by the Evil Mad Scientists to create more rounded eyes. The mozzarella balls were marinated ones from Trader Joes.
Row 2: Flayed Skin Cheeseball makes a reappearance. An art store face mold, covered in shreds of proscuito. Cheese ball mixture was 4 or so cups of shredded cheese, 16 oz cream cheese, cajun spices, and some extra finely chopped proscuitto.

Row 3:
1) Final Cheeseball
2) Ingredients for Salmon Brain. 8 oz cream cheese, 1 small piece of fresh salmon, broiled or…
