<<=This was my favorite costume from Dragon-con this year.  The REAL Iron Man!  Love the details… like “Starch Industries on the handle.  (Though I have to admit, I totally didn’t get it the first time I saw it… I was just “wow, what a cool giant iron!”  Then it hit me!)

Halloween seems to bring out the Star Wars Geek in all of us, and with the new Clone Wars series, all the kids have rediscovered it as well. So classic or the new animated series, or even (shudder) Eps 1-3, we should totally have a Star Wars Halloween!

Another really cool one that I found turned out to be by Sarah at Craft Critique. How cool is this R2 D2 (Using an Ikea hamper and a bike helmet!) See a video of the costume in action here! (Pictured below)

* Heather’s Stormtrooper costume:   She gives the basics on how she started on it here, so read that first. Then she used the paper towel rolls and oatmeal container for the base parts with paper mache over them and sculpted the helmet. She used other bits of paper and cardboard for the embellishments – on gloves, belt, knoby things on thigh plate. Straws cut in half became the “ribs” on the centers of the leg and arm plates. Then Heather painted everything white. She glued white felt on the back sides of the pieces, then used velcro to attach them! Very clever!

Lisa made this Garbage Man/Truck costume, and I think she did an awesome job. As she points out, the same principles could be used for a fire truck (with fireman costume), tow truck, or whatever your little boy would like!

According to Lisa, she made this with: Two cardboard boxes, six paper plates, some paint and some ribbon. And, notice the matching hats for extra credit! She used two of those “puck lights” on the front for headlights (and had two little red flashing lights for taillights on the back), adding authenticity and safety at night…  And check out the cool dumpster candy container, too!

Plus, as you fans of Dr. Horrible would know, it’s kinda awkward when Penny invites both Captain Hammer and Dr. Horrible, and they both show up.. I knew that Chad would be coming as Dr. Horrible, I didn’t even realize my friend John was coming as Captain Hammer… made my Penny costume even better. The handy hubby made my ‘gun shrapnel’ which was held to my chest by magnets, as I really liked the dress!

Jen Says: “I made it from some scrap fleece, and painted it with non-toxic tempera paints. Most of it was machine stitched, though the face part was hand stitched, and I included the plastic head frame from a child’s batting helmet for extra support (also stitched into place). I didn’t have a pattern (still don’t – I am sure that this will be a one-off costume!), so I worked from a drawing that my husband made for me.”

Duck Duck Goose. This was a Trio Costume, but could easily be a couple. The ducks are cheep from Oriental Trading Co.

Sumos! (Storebought, but hilarious (full view of similar one here)!)

This is one of the funniest, but I don’t have a good one of them together (ignore the baby*). He’s the little Dutch Boy. His wife wore a ‘wife beater’ tshirt and a flannel shirt, and jeans, and maybe a chain wallet. Ummm, get it? (Our lesbian friends thought it was funny, too)
